Connecticut Private Investigator Licensing Requirements

Private investigators must be licensed by the Commissioner of Public Safety. Candidates must be 25-years or older, be of good moral character, and have at least five years of experience doing one of the following: being a registered private investigator; operating a detective agency; being a federal state or local government investigator; or being a fulltime detective with a federal, state, or local police department.

An individual with at least 10-years of experience working as a police officer with a municipal police department is also eligible for a PI license.
