Qualifications for a private investigator in Indiana include a bachelors degree in criminal justice and two years (4,000 hours) of verified employment as one of the following: an employee of a licensed agency; an investigator for the United States Department of Justice or Treasury; a criminal investigator with the U.S. Armed Forces; a sheriffs investigator; a railroad detective; a claims investigator with an insurance company; a licensed attorney; an investigator for a practicing attorney; or a police officer for a state, local, or federal government agency.
