Massachusetts Private Investigator Licensing Requirements
Private investigator licenses in Massachusetts are issued by the State Police. Applicants must have three non-relative references, be of good moral character, and pass a criminal background check. Candidates must also have three years of investigative experience as one of the following: a former member of an investigative service of the United States, a former Massachusetts police officer with a rank higher than a patrolman, or a formerly employed police officer in another state.
