New Hampshire Private Investigator Licensing Requirements

Private detective licenses in New Hampshire are issued by the State Police Division of Licenses and Permits. Applicants must be 18-years or older, provide three non-relative character references, clear a criminal background check, provide two photos taken by the state police, and be a U.S. resident.

PI applicants in New Hampshire must also have one of the following: a minimum of four years experience as a fulltime law enforcement officer; an associate or bachelor of science degree in criminal justice or fire service and two years employment as a fulltime investigator; four years employment as a fulltime investigator; or four years experience as a fulltime firefighter and certification by the International Association of Arson Investigators.
